Editorial Reviews
Book Description
While on a trip to the Caribbean a few years ago, I spent my leisure
time exploring old forts and museums famous in the days of the
pirates. Where ever I travelled, I tried to seek out anything related to
pirate history. To my surprise, it was not very easy to do. Unfortunately
Caribbean Tourism books do not use the pirate theme to their best
advantage in my estimation. Of course there are some well publicized
locations that are on all the tourist maps but what about the rest of the
Caribbean? Pirates were all over the place in the Caribbean. They did
not just travel back and forth from one or two spots.
This guide book covers pirate locations and much more. It covers
places where you can purchase pirate treasure in the form of gold
coins on necklaces. It covers antiques shops where ever they were
found throughout the region. The Caribbean Islands do not have a lot
of antiques shops dotting their shores but each one has a local
museum and it's fair share of pirate lore.
Besides the Islands the book covers the Gulf Coast of the USA from
Florida through Louisiana and Texas. A wealth of antiquing fun is
yours to be discovered in the state of Florida alone. I had intended on
travelling to the Gulf Coast just before Hurricane Katrina but was
unable to make the trip. The guide covers the areas hit by Hurricane
Katrina and it is our hope that maybe the book will send needed
tourists down to New Orleans and the surrounding areas.
Mexico is included in its entirety, as we take you from the east coast
over land to the west coast resorts of Acapulco and Manzannillo.
Returning to Mexico City, this may be the only antiques guide to cover
a burgeoning antiques business, mostly centered around Guadalajara.
There were lots of pirate hang outs and activities in Central America
which include Ambergris Caye, the Bay Islands, the Corn Islands,
Quepos and Panama City.
Over to Cartagena, the treasure city of the Spanish Main and then the
forts of Venezuela are all explored.
The guide besides advertising antiques shops, museums and
attractions, offers historical notes on each town, city and locale.
This guide is available as two separate guides:
Book I covers Louisiana, Texas, Mexico, Central America,
Columbia, Venezuela and The Islands up to and including
Martinique.
Book II covers The Islands from St.Lucia north, Florida,
Alabama and Mississippi.
