Book Description

Where ever I travel I can never find a guide book that really tells me
what I want to know. In terms of antiques hunting, each locale usually
has a small brochure of shops located in its vicinity. On the west coast
of Washington and Oregon, you will find map books and newspapers.
While excellent in as far as they go, I also would like to know a little
about the history of each area, town and city.
This guide pulls all the above together and much more. Starting in
Carmel, California it takes a look at the Bay areas antiques
destinations such as Niles, Martinez, San Anselmo and Petaluma and
everything in between. It explores the Great Ranchos of what is now
the Silicon Valley and San Francisco  a pivotal point in the history of
the Gold Rush. The wonderful valleys of Napa and Sonoma are
included as are the towns of Sebastopol and Healdsburg.
The area around Portland is next and the small towns that dot the
Greater Portland area, Lake Oswego, Oregon City and Newberg to
mention a few. In Portland we take a look at Sellwood, Portland's
antiques Row. The history of Portland during the Gold Rush days is
highlighted.
Heading north along the I-5 corridor into Washington State, the guide
visits town after town up to Olympia and finally Seattle, another pivotal
gold rush city. Throughout Seattle each neighborhood which has a
cluster of antiques shops is high lighted. Greater Seattle is  a wealth of
antiques malls and shops just waiting to be explored. Visit Bainbridge
island and the Olympic peninsula towns of Port Townsend and Sequim.
Lots to discover on Whidbey island!  The center of Antiquing just north
of Seattle though is Snohomish. This little town nestled east of the I-5
about a 5 minute drive from the freeway has more shops per capita
than any other town in the state, earning it the title of the Antiques
Capitol Of Washington.
The Guide explores the cities of Victoria and Vancouver in British
Columbia and travels up the Fraser Canyon to the Cariboo, the site of
the big Gold Rush in the 1890s. Visit Barkerville, the largest historical
site in Western North America.
Our next stop is the Klondike Gold Rush of 1896 in Dawson Creek, in
the Yukon Territory. Read about the adventures of Jack London in
Dawson City ( and also back in Glen Ellen, California at the Jack
London State Historical Park).
We end the guide in Alaska and a look at a few gold rush era sites and
activities and of course, antiques shops.
